Source of the incense formula
The Yuyan Ancient Soap formula originates from the Baibai Powder recorded in Volume Ten of the imperial medicinal compendium “Yu Yao Yuan Fang” from the Yuan Dynasty. Through refinement by Qing‑dynasty court physicians, it evolved into the time‑honored “Yurong Powder,” a prized remedy reserved for the imperial family. Later, under the second-generation传承 of Chen Yuxiang—Lin Qingchi—the formula was further improved into a soap and renamed “Yuyan Soap,” ensuring its legacy to this day.
“Yu Yan” originally referred to a person of exquisite beauty. In the “Ode to the Goddess” composed by Song Yu of the State of Chu during the Warring States period, it is written: “Her countenance is full and graceful, with a dignified charm; her cheeks are like jade, warm and lustrous.”
