Source of the incense formula

The formula’s foundation originates from “The Fragrance in the Tent of Lady Li of Jiangnan”: Lady Zhou, the younger consort, was skilled in music and fond of burning incense. She personally crafted incense‑burning implements and appointed palace maids to oversee this ritual, known as the “Maids of the Master Incense.” During the day, she would draw the curtains and burn incense, filling the chamber with a misty, fragrant haze; seated within it, she seemed to drift into clouds and mist. At night, she would steam agarwood with pear slices and place it in her tent, allowing its aroma to permeate deeply, earning it the name “Tent‑in‑the‑Fragrance.” Zhuang Yanyu, the fourth-generation inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage “Techniques for Crafting Nourishing Incense,” spent several years refining an ancient formula drawn from classical texts. Drawing on the traditional principles of herbal blending and time‑honored methods passed down through the Chen Yu Xiang medicinal‑incense lineage, she created this exquisite fragrance. Each incense bead contains a harmonious blend of agarwood, duck pears, rose water, frankincense, sandalwood, jiangzhen incense, benzoin, and other aromatic herbs.
