Source of the incense formula
San Shen Xiang, also known as “San Sheng Xiang,” “Ling Xu Xiang,” or “Xin Ling Xiang,” is a time-honored incense that has long been cherished by the world and revered as an indispensable tool for spiritual cultivation across generations. According to the “Yun Ji Qi Qian,” the immortal Yan Ji once secluded himself in a stone cave on Mount San Gong, where venomous beasts roamed unchecked. Later, he received a miraculous fragrance from three Daoist masters; when burned, it caused all wild creatures to cower and retreat. The masters inscribed the formula for this incense upon a stone wall before vanishing into thin air. This sacred aroma can bridge heaven and earth, banish evil spirits, avert calamities and epidemics, and even summon wind and rain—hence its name, “San Shen Xiang.”
